Archival sound….

Monique asked a good question about using archival sound. A ha! This would NOT be sound collected by you. But say you were doing a story about the inauguration and you wanted to use audio of Obama’s speech. And you were hanging out with a family in their living room, interviewing them about the speech. In this case it WOULD be OK to use audio of the speech from a different source. (i.e. youtube; a tv newscast). Because you’re not altering reality. You’re providing context. You’re providing detail. This also goes for historical archival tape — say audio of Martin Luther King Jr. — in a story about people talking now about civil rights.  But this would be an ADDITIONAL element. Your focus, for this class, should be original material that you collect yourselves. Make sense?
