With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

Great discussion on ethics today. It was too brief but hopefully some important things sunk in.

Here’s the essay that talks about citizen journalism and the Fort Hood shootings.

Teacher Gets Schooled in Vegas and Produces This

I was lucky enough to be a part of the NPPA’s Multimedia Immersion program in June. Yeah, it was intimidating being around so many shooters. I can handle audio and audio editing but I am still freaked out by F-stops and apertures.

The Immersion program is pricey but totally worth it. The best part: getting one-on-one coaching by some of the best people in the country. I scored, getting to work with NPR’s Coburn Dukehart and Scott Anger of the LA Times.

Rocky Mountain News, RIP

An incredibly well-executed video chronicling The (late) Rocky Mountain News. It’ll get you if you’ve ever worked at a newspaper (Daily folks: you have to watch!). It’s also an example of how music can heighten the emotion in film. (You know how I’m not a big fan of music, at least not for our projects). But in this case I thought the choice of music and how it’s used was really nice. This is a long video — 20 minutes — but I could not stop watching.
